David Norman is a unique blend of charisma and business acumen. Over a long career in a wide variety of executive positions, David has acquired a broad base of coaching and consulting abilities. He draws from these skills to help take established medium sized companies and entrepreneurial businesses to the next level. His belief that the culture of leadership is both teachable and learnable is mirrored in his practice where emphasis is placed on core underlying values such as respect and accountability in leadership roles. David’s thoughts on leadership are anchored to two key messages: A great leader listens and listens empathetically; and, leadership is not about providing answers but asking the right questions.
With almost 45 years of management consultant experience, David holds the prestigious designation of Certified Management Consultant, awarded to a select group of professionals. Coupled with 25 years of professorial experience teaching Strategic Management, Corporate Finance, Organizational Behavior, Principles of Management and Principles of Marketing, David brings an unparalleled depth of knowledge to his position as Chair at Vistage Group Charlotte, North Carolina. David has published a wide variety of reports on technology and productivity; articles for magazines and newsletters on sales compensation, costing, creative problem solving and increasing profitability. He is also the author of three books on costing, pricing and cost control. In addition to his broad business expertise, David is also a professional photographer.
David’s experience in consulting with owners and executives, of which are mostly closely held clients but extends to not-for-profits and government entities, involves helping management through development of long-range and strategic plans, and assisting companies in resolving succession issues. He has served as Interim Director at several not-for-profits undergoing change. He has also assisted troubled organizations with improving operations, strengthening management, and increasing profitability. Some of the industry sectors include: dealerships, wholesaling, distribution, textile manufacturing, construction, real estate firms, medical practices, machine shops, retailing, lumber manufacturing, associations and government bodies.
After graduating from Furman University, Norman went on to earn an MBA from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Norman founded his own consulting firm, David Norman and Associates (DNA) in 1995 offering results-oriented services to small and mid-sized companies, non-profit organizations, and government agencies. The firm specializes in financial, operational and general management consulting services.
David has been recognized by consulting peers on an international basis by the 2017 awarding of CMC-AF, Academic Fellow of the International Council of Management Consultants Institutes (ICMCI). Norman is the first (and only) recipient in the U.S. Further, Norman was awarded (October, 2018) the FIMC, Fellow of the Institute of Management Consultants USA, one of only 58 awarded in 50 years.
